A smaller, faster
processor component.
A fleet-produced Ibex ALU design reduced estimated area and delay while preserving its behavior in all three tested configurations.
The problem
Make the circuit smaller.
Keep what it computes.
An arithmetic logic unit handles calculations inside a processor. A better implementation can use less area and shorten its signal delay. The fleet worked on the existing Ibex ALU, using formal checks to preserve its behavior.
Less area.
Less delay.
After a four-hour run with 512 agents, a selected design reduced estimated area and delay in every tested configuration. In Balanced mode, area fell 23.6% and delay fell 35.0%. Separate formal checks passed in all three modes.
| Configuration | Area reduction | Delay reduction |
|---|---|---|
| None (RV32B 0) | −7.29% | −12.79% |
| Balanced (RV32B 1) | −23.58% | −35.01% |
| Full (RV32B 2) | −14.19% | −28.34% |
A useful design
shared across the fleet.
The final submission adopted a design another agent had published earlier in the run. Matching file hashes and the submitting agent’s credit confirm that the same circuit passed between them.
The deliverable is an RTL change, with equivalence and synthesis results to support further engineering review.

Results use Yosys 0.33, sv2v 0.0.13 and the Nangate45 typical library on a pinned Ibex revision. These are synthesis estimates for the combinational ALU; whole-processor performance and routed silicon were not measured.
Seven final candidates were independently checked: three from the communicating fleet, three from a separate 512-agent independent fleet and one solo result. Every candidate passed equivalence in all three configurations. The selected communicating design had the lowest Balanced area and delay in this checked subset. The independent fleet also produced improvements; the solo result reduced Balanced delay by 12.79% and area by 1.34%.
All three arms had four-hour active lifetimes and the same original task, seed and model profile. The solo arm started earlier, productive inference time and actual costs are unknown, and shared-host incidents affected the runs. An identical continuation prompt was sent to all arms. Candidate collection was partial; these are selected designs, not exhaustive best-of-fleet results or a causal test of messaging.
